Tips and Practices
Helpful Guidance
Whether you are new to CamTran or a regular passenger, here are some helpful guidelines to ensure a prompt and pleasant trip.
- Our drivers are expected to transport passengers to their destination according to a predetermined schedule. To help them stay on this time table, please arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes prior to the arranged departure time.
- All riders must pay the fare in order to use transportation services. Please have your pass handy or your fare ready before you board a bus to minimize delays and help keep the route on time.
- If you want to qualify for the student rate or for a 31-Day student pass, present your student ID or proof of enrollment to the driver.
- If you are a senior and would like to ride for free, please show the driver a valid senior ID card.
- If you would like to apply for an ADA compliant half-fare card, please contact our office for assistance.
- Understand our drivers are required to stop at specific time points and for safety reasons cannot always accommodate the location in which you would like to board or exit the bus.
- Stand clear of doors so people can easily enter and exit vehicles.
- Allow exiting passengers to leave before you attempt to board.
Being a Good Neighbor on Transit
You can help make sure everyone has a safe and pleasant trip! Here are some tips to help you be a good neighbor on transit.
- CamTran has the highest expectations of customer service from our drivers. We ask that the public remembers to be kind to them in return.
- During busy times the buses can fill to capacity. To accommodate as many passengers as possible, please politely step back to make room for everyone.
- The Priority Seating area aboard buses is designated for seniors and customers with disabilities. Please yield this area to those with special needs.
- Take everything you brought on board with you when you leave (including newspapers).
- Use trash receptacles and recycling bins, as appropriate.
- To ensure all passengers have equal access to comfort, please keep your feet and belongings off of empty seats to allow others to sit down.
- Be mindful of the volume at which you speak, and the use of adult-only-appropriate language when talking on your phone or listening to music which others may hear.
Safety Around Buses
Be observant around the buses so everyone arrives safely! Here are some tips to keep you safe.
- You cannot assume a bus driver sees you. Objects such as utility poles, mailboxes, and parked vehicles can obscure the driver's view.
- Buses have blind-spots and chasing behind or running alongside a bus is dangerous. Play it safe and wait for the next one.
- Other vehicles may pass a bus in transit. Only cross the street in front of a bus at a traffic light; use caution and look both ways before crossing a lane of traffic.
- Always approach the bike rack from the curb.
- Don't step out in between parked cars - you may not be visible to drivers.
- Your bus may need to deploy the ramp at your stop. Wait on the sidewalk a few steps back from the curb.
- Please hold your child's hand when a bus approaches; horseplay can result in accidents.
