Transit Trivia

In the United States, there are about 60,000 public transit buses.
Lined up end-to-end, they would form a straight line from Pittsburgh
to Chicago.

U.S. public transit systems use 450,000,000 gallons of fuel
per year; enough to fill 64,286 mobile fuel tankers.

In 1890, there were 415 trolley companies in New York City,
operating 18,000 trolley cars, pulled by over 100,000 horses and
mules, which generated over 90 MILLION tons of manure a year!

On Early Trolley cars, passengers signaled their intention to exit
by pulling on a strap attached to the trolley operator's ankle.

For every 1000 people commuting to work, 14 pounds
of carbon monoxide are created when buses are used.
Compare that to 98 pounds of carbon monoxide if autos are driven.
